A busy month has passed us by and
another one awaits. I’m looking forward
to a quiet summer. I hope. But for now, our schedule is pretty packed.
February started with our first
degree work of the year, an EA degree on 04 February. We had one Masonic funeral for a fifty year
member. RW Norm, RW Harold and Wor. Bunk
represented Concord for that funeral held near Annapolis, MD at 1100 on 18
February.
In happier news, Concord
celebrated our 100th anniversary with a wonderful event on 13
February. The Grand Master, MW William
Earle Rorer, Jr., was in attendance.
Concord Lodge presented the Grand Master with a donation to the Masonic
Home of VA and presented his wife with a donation for Child ID.
RW Norm Mayo put on a great
event. The food was excellent, the
setting was excellent, and he surprised everyone by unveiling a plaque with the
99 past masters of Concord Lodge, with space for several more.
The 100th anniversary
coin was distributed to everyone in attendance and it turned out to be a very
impressive token. Wor. Don Mahan
procured the coins and there are still a few left. They are available for sale for $6.00
each. Contact RW Norm for details.
On 22 February Concord conducted
a fraternal visit to Arlington-Centennial Glebe, No. 81. The purpose of this visit was to exemplify a
Master Mason’s catechism. ACG wants to
start teaching the catechism and asked Concord to visit and exhibit the catechism
as their evening’s program. Concord
Lodge arrived with eight members and the catechism was conducted by Worshipful
Me examining Brother Aaron Staley, who did a great job considering we only
practiced twice in preparation.
The program was well received by
ACG. This visit also counts on the
Hillman Award as a educational program at another lodge!
March’s Stated Communication will
be the visit of our DDGM, RW Brian Block.
All brethren are invited and encouraged to attend!
18 March is a Grand Master visit
to Cherrydale Lodge. It would be poor
form for Concord not to conduct a fraternal visit on this date, so we will
arrive in force to make our presence known.
On 20 March is the District
Leadership Conference at the Alexandria Scottish Rite. Registration begins at 0800. All are welcome. Stationed officers have a mandatory
attendance requirement.
The evening of 20 March is the
Grand Master’s official visit to the 54th (and 4th)
districts. This event will be held at
the Kena Shrine. Tickets are available
from the secretary, Norm Mayo, PDDGM.
April will be our first Concord
Fellowship Night, which is the name I have selected for closing lodge quickly
and retiring to the Vienna Inn for an evening of fellowship. We have several members who don’t get to our
Stated Communication as often as I know they would like; I hope they can make
it in April so we can all catch up with one another.
For April’s Stated Communication
the uniform will be, out of necessity, casual wear. The necessity refers to the chili dogs and
fries (and libations) available at the VI.
There are four blood drives in
the district this year, with the following dates: 24 April (KMW), 26 June
(ACG), 28 August (KMW) and 30 October (ACG).
We will have the canteen for one of these blood drives so please keep
these dates open and please give if you are able.
For those of you confused by the
term “flop sweat” in last month’s trestleboard, Webster defines “flop sweat”
as: Function: noun, Date: 1953; “Nervous
sweat (as of a performer) caused especially by the fear of failing.
Sincerely and Fraternally,
