From the East...
Welcome to our lodge website.  Since 1910 we've been an active, positive force in the community.   This still remains true today.  Providing child ID services, sponsoring youth baseballs teams,  coordinating our many blood drives, and assisting the community distressed are only a small fraction of our activities.   We strive every day to live up to our most cherished tenets of Brothly Love, Relief, and Truth.

Whether you are a cherished brother, a craft friend, or a visitor we are pleased you have chosen to visit our site.  Feel free to look around, contact us, or leave us a note in our Guestbook.

Stated Communication 3rd Tuesday at 7:30 PM (Except 1st Tuesday in Dec.)

Ì Sick and Distressed

We are always mindful of our sick and shut-in members & widows.  This is an area in which we can all help with our prayers, visits, and messages of good cheer. When you know of a sick or distressed member, please notify the Lodge promptly through our Worshipful Master, Secretary, or Leader of the Sick and Shut-in Team.

Brethren & Friends,

Spring is turning into summer as I write this.  I just finished up some gardening and the bugs were constantly swirling around as sweat dripped down my brow.  I know of many who enjoy this type of weather.  For me, it’s the cue to retreat indoors until September.

Or, alternatively, to leave town for much of the summer.

For 2010 I will be doing much of the latter, as I have several military callings and vacation plans which will necessitate my retreat from this area for a couple of weeks at a time.  For that reason this trestleboard will encompass both June and July 2010.

But first, a recap of the month behind us.

May began on a sad note with the Masonic memorial for L. Stillman Carter, PDDGM, on 07 May.  The memorial was conducted by our own Wor. Lauris M. Eek, III, and was well attended by over 20 Masons from Concord Lodge and other lodges in the district and including our DDGM, RW Brian Block.

Much of the month was spent conferring degrees (FC) and preparing to confer degrees (EA).  Our SW, James H. Pickren, has been leading the charge in this direction as he prepares to acquire his Warden’s Certificate.

Speaking of the EA degree, Concord has been awash in interest of late by prospective candidates.  Should all interested parties elect to pursue membership, and be elected to receive the degrees, we will be in the interesting position of running out of catechism coaches before the year is out.  This is a good problem to have.

As our Stated Communication for May was overshadowed by our membership’s considerable participation in the Eastern Star Grand Chapter (and congratulations again to Bren Brundage, Grand Matron for VA) Concord had a light fare of business on our agenda followed by a heavy fare of chili dogs and libations at VI. This could become habit forming…

For June our Stated Communication will be honored to receive the Mayor of Vienna to speak before the lodge and inform us of upcoming events and issues facing the community.  All brethren and friends are encouraged to attend and participate.  This will be an open session to start the meeting, so non-Masons are welcome (including the Vienna mayor, who is not a Mason).

July’s Stated Communication will be the interim report of the Strategic Finance Team / Committee, led by RW Bill Glascock, PDDGM, who will present some findings and recommendations on ways to solidify the financial health and prosperity of Concord Lodge for generations to come.

We also have the Child ID at Viva Vienna and our annual spring picnic in conjunction with Harmony Chapter.  There will also be at least a couple of degrees over the next couple of months as well.

So while I escape indoors or out of town for much of the next couple of months I will be at all (or almost all) of our Masonic events over the summer. Will you?

Sincerely and Fraternally,

Keith G. Gawrys
Worshipful Master, Concord Lodge

Monthly Masonic Humor:
A Mason was telling a fellow Mason about the trouble he was having with his ritual. His friend said he knew a Brother down the road who sells parrots that know the ritual and then prompt you when you have any trouble.

So the next day off he went to the shop. After strict examination, the owner pulled a curtain to reveal three parrots. The first was wearing a Worshipful Master's apron, the second had on a standard Master’s apron, and the third bore a Past Master’s apron.

"How much is the one with the Worshipful Master's apron on?"
"$6000. He knows all the ritual including the inner workings, and will always prompt you when you get stuck"
"No, too expensive. What about the one with the Master Mason’s apron on?"
"Well, that one is only $3,000. He doesn't know the inner workings, but knows
all the ritual and will always prompt you when learning."
"No, still too much I'm afraid. What about the one wearing the Past Master’s
apron?"
"Oh, I can let you have him for just 10 bucks!"
"Why so cheap? Surely he must know all the ritual and the inner workings?"
"Oh yes, he knows all the ritual alright. But when you make a mistake all he does is sit there and mutter.”
